Bill Eureka

Bill Eureka has over 40 years of experience in continuous improvement in manufacturing, engineering, and management. He is an experienced trainer, mentor, and coach with the ability to relate to all levels within an organization. He has led and coached hundreds of improvement projects. Bill brings expertise in multiple improvement methodologies and readily combines them to fit the situation as needed. Bill is a Professor in the School of Business at Davenport University.

Hardware requirements:

  • This course can be taken on either a PC or Mac.

Software requirements:

  • PC: Windows 8 or later.
  • Mac: macOS 10.6 or later.
  • Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge and Safari are also compatible.
  • Microsoft Office (not included in enrolment) or LibreOffice (free) or Google Docs (free).
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

Instructional material requirements:

The instructional materials required for this course are included in enrolment and will be available online.

Prerequisites:

To be successful in this course, it is strongly recommended that you complete your Black Belt project at your current place of employment. Black Belt-level process improvement projects require significant real-time data, which is easier to obtain when you are presently employed. Projects must also be based on an actual business and are subject to approval by a Master Black Belt. Examples include:

  • Manufacturing Floor – Reduced manufacturing product defects
  • Human Resources Department – Reduced recruitment cycle time
  • Accounting Department - Reduced accounts payable invoice processing costs

If you are currently unemployed, then you should instead take a Green Belt level certification course like Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

Does this course prepare you for a certification?

Yes, once you finish the course and assessments with GoLeanSixSigma.com, you'll earn your certification. Note: the certificate will include a specified expiration date. If you certificate does not show an expiration date, your certification will expire two years after the course completion date. Certification Requirements:

You must hold a Green Belt to be eligible for the Black Belt certification exam. To enroll in the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification course, you will be required to provide either an approved Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training Certification certificate or test out of the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course. You can bypass testing out if you present a qualifying Green Belt Certificate, which is:

  • Issued by a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • ASQ Issued for a Green Belt course covering Lean and Six Sigma concepts and tools (not only Lean or only Six Sigma).

The qualifying process to submit your Green Belt Certificate:

  • The certificate must be scanned and emailed to the student's Student Advisor.
  • The certificate will be reviewed to determine its acceptability in place of the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certificate.
  • If the certificate is not accepted, you will be required to register for the full Lean Six Green Belt Training Certification or test out by passing the Lean Green Belt Exam.

When can I start the course?

This course is open enrollment, so you can register and start the course as soon as you are ready. Access to your course can take 24-48 business hours.

How long does it take to complete this course?

This course is self-paced and open enrollment, so you can start when you want and finish at your own pace. When you register, you'll receive six (6) months to complete the course.

What if I don't have enough time to complete my course within the time frame provided?

The time allotted for course completion has been calculated based on the number of course hours. However, if you are unable to complete the course, contact the student advising team to see what options you may have available to work out a suitable completion date. Please note that an extension fee may be charged.

What kind of support will I receive?

Our courses are designed to accommodate various learning preferences. Depending on the course structure, you may get different forms of support. Self-paced courses are designed to be user-friendly and independent, minimizing the need for external support. In courses with instructors, our direct platform support feature includes opportunities for questions, discussions, and remediation, with email and phone support available for select courses. Our student advising team is available to guide you on program requirements and administrative requests, but they do not provide assistance with course content. Our goal is to provide you with the necessary support for success, whether it's through self-paced exploration, direct communication, or guidance from our advising team.

What happens when I complete the course?

Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a certificate of completion. In addition, you will be able to sit for the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification after successful completion of the course and financial obligation.

Am I guaranteed a job?

This course will provide you with the skills you need to obtain an entry-level position in most cases. Potential students should always do research on the job market in their area before registering. 

Can I get financial assistance?

This course is non-credit, so it does not qualify for federal aid, FAFSA and Pell Grant. In some states, vocational rehab or workforce development boards will pay for qualified students to take our courses. Additionally, some students may qualify for financial assistance when they enroll, if they meet certain requirements. Financing is available from select schools. What if I do not pass the project requirement of the course?

You are allowed 3 revisions of your project, where you are provided feedback by a Master Black Belt. If you fail to pass after 3 revisions, there will be a fee of $300 to submit another revision.

What will I do as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt?

As a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, you will develop an even deeper understanding of the Lean and Six Sigma concepts and build upon what you learned as a Green Belt. This will most likely be your full time role, and you will be responsible for leading the team charged with undertaking a project to improve quality. You will plan and deploy the project, define and measure benchmarks and milestones, form and motivate your team, analyze progress and results due to process improvement, interpret and communicate risks, and develop control plans to maintain and sustain improvements made.

What is the average salary of someone certified in Lean Six Sigma?

The salary of certified Lean Six Sigma professionals varies widely depending on your years of experience and type of job you hold. The overall national median salary of a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is between $66,000 and $117,000.
